Eyedrops instead of cheaters?

People in their mid-40’s often begin to notice that they are having a very hard time reading items that are at arm’s length. This age-related problem is called presbyopia, and it can be quite annoying! The most frequent treatment for presbyopia is the use of over-the-counter readers, which is a pair of glasses that can improve near vision. Recently, a new drug called Vuity was FDA approved to assist patients with near vision without the use of eyeglasses. This medication requires a prescription from a physician. Vuity needs to be instilled in your eyes 1 to 2 times a day, and each dose can provide several hours of improved near vision without glasses. Even though this may be a convenience for some patients, it has its own possible side effects. In particular, it can cause redness, headache, and may increase the risk of retinal detachment. A patient who uses Vuity regularly would need to invest approximately $80 monthly for the eye drop.

At Lucent Vision we also offer a safe and effective surgical solution to treat presbyopia and reduce the dependence on reading glasses. This outpatient procedure is called Refractive Lens Exchange and it is permanent fix to improve distance vision as well as near vision. The procedure takes about 45 minutes and patients can usually enjoy the results within a few days. Ask us for a free consultation to see if you are a candidate!
